E-E-A-T for data-as-a-service companies
The trust signals web data, B2B data and data API companies need before Google ranks them and AI assistants cite them. This page covers Data-as-a-Service, not Desktop-as-a-Service.

Why data trust is different
Data buyers ask one question first: where did this data come from? They're buying provenance, freshness and the right to use the data, not a feature list.
- 53% of internet traffic is bots, and 40% is bad bots (Thales, 2026). Buyers judge every collection method against that.
- Scraping is being tested in court. Reddit's scraping claims against SerpApi and Perplexity were allowed to proceed in July 2026 (MediaPost).
- 64 of the 88 websites we optimized over 4 years had unfixed technical issues.
Trust signals for data-as-a-service companies
Experience
- Coverage stats with a methodology page. Record count, geographic coverage, update frequency and the date the stats were last verified — with a methodology page an AI assistant can cite.
- Freshness benchmarks with data age distribution. Not "real-time data" — show the median data age, the 95th percentile, and how freshness degrades by data type.
- Sample datasets, downloadable. A real dataset, not a cherry-picked example. Buyers run their own checks before they sign.
- Integration case studies with field-level detail. Which fields were used, what the match rate was, and what the buyer's specific outcome was.
Expertise
- Collection method documentation. How the data is collected — crawling, partnerships, user-generated, licensed — with the legal basis for each source.
- Entity resolution documentation. How you match records across sources, the deduplication logic, and what your false-positive rate is.
- Data dictionary, publicly accessible. Every field name, data type, example value and description. An AI assistant needs to be able to index this to cite you accurately.
- Use case guides per industry. Not "data for everyone" — pages for financial services, marketing, sales intelligence, and risk management, each with field-level examples.
Authoritativeness
- Data quality certifications with scope. ISO 8000, DAMA-DMBOK alignment, or an independent data quality audit — with the auditor's name and the date of the most recent review.
- G2 Data Intelligence and Data Enrichment categories. Buyers search these categories specifically. Keep reviews current in both.
- Marketplace listings on data exchanges. AWS Data Exchange, Databricks Marketplace, Snowflake Marketplace — with last-verified date and the datasets available there.
- Named data scientists on content. A data scientist or chief data officer's byline on methodology posts, with their credentials and LinkedIn profile.
Trust
- Data provenance page. Where every data type originates, the collection method, the update cadence, and the legal basis for holding and selling it.
- Terms of service that state permitted use clearly. Can buyers use the data for AI training? For ad targeting? For credit decisions? Make the limits explicit.
- GDPR and CCPA compliance pages, per regulation. DPA template, data retention periods, sub-processor list, and the date each was last updated.
- Legal risk section. What scraping, copyright and database right laws apply to your data, and how you've addressed them. Buyers with legal teams check this.
